finishes

*** I’ve misplaced the model I stitched for the 2009 Just Cross Stitch ornament issue! I sort of remember thinking “I better put this some place where I won’t lose it” when the box came in the mail, but I’ll be darned if I can figure out where the safe place is.

*** this week’s reading:

*** a stitchy finish, LK “tiny tree” ornament done over 3 linen threads with DMC Perle:

*** new additions to the scissor fob selection on my website:

*** Our Christmas tree is up but not decorated yet. Well, it has 3 ornaments on it right now but only because I just bought them… haven’t gotten the ornaments from the basement yet. Judging from posts I’ve seen on facebook and blogs, it seems like a lot of us just aren’t ready this year!

*** Tomorrow I’ll be going to see Jesus Christ Superstar! The film came out in 1973 and has been one of my faves ever since. Seriously. I know every word by heart –which isn’t saying much after 36 years of listening to the soundtrack, but still. I’m a big fan. HUGE fan. I’ve seen the play (er, rock opera) every time it’s come to my city; the best tour was the one with Carl Anderson playing Judas. I’m a little concerned about Ted Neeley’s age and whether his 60-something year old voice can still belt out the tunes, but I have no doubt that I’ll enjoy myself immensely even if he can’t.

I just remembered that I got into big trouble in grade school for teaching my classmates one of the songs from JCS! I went to a strict, religious school and any type of fun was frowned upon.

Hosanna, hey, Sanna, Sanna, Sanna,
Ho-sanna, hey, Sanna, Ho-sanna.
Hey JC, JC, won’t you smile at me?
Sanna, Hosanna, hey, Superstar.

So here’s how I finished the little Quaker guy:

The snowflake frame is from Yarn Tree, and your LNS can order them. I used red wire to make a hanger and added little stars and a “peace” charm. It’s for exchange, and I really hope my partner likes it!

I also stitched and finished this Pine Mountain design. Seriously, PMs are so good for these dark evenings and TV watching, aren’t they? I never used to like them much but they’ve grown on me over the past year and I’m now a Pine Mountain fan… they’re quick, cute, and easy.

I didn’t stitch or finish the acorn tag; I just wanted to make note of this idea for using those Kelmscott thread hoops. Holly had this at the Branson retreat:

This witch lost her hat and had to borrow one from her friend, who is a clown. Her spells haven’t been selling well lately, so she’s had to take a part time job as a crossing guard…

I give up.

My daughter had her first volleyball game yesterday evening, and I wanted a quick & simple project to take in case there was any waiting time. I chose this design by Blackbird Designs, and stitched it with Harvest Brew by Carrie’s Creation. As you can see, there was a lot of waiting time… I was able to finish it and still have time to twiddle my thumbs.

So the girls got massacred lost last night, but they sure looked cute doing it. I love their purple polka dot uniform socks! The other team just had those boring white socks.

In my mail today: this nifty little needle threader, made by Tommye. I think these are very cute and clever as all get out. BTW, Tommye keeps an Etsy shop, in case you think you need one, too!

I just found out that Stacy Nash started blogging… she’s now on my list of designer’s blogs :) If you know of any more, please let me know.

Have a lovely day!
